Catching up

Been a bit since I have posted, so I should get back at it. I've been pretty busy since last post during my time in the archives. I have the the chance to work with a few more collections. I was able to process one collection which was only about 2 cubic feet. This collection dealt with materials from the Forest Quad dorm. It didn't take to long to get thought with it being such a small collection. With it being that small I did not even have a series. The material consisted of orientation materials for new students that were moving into the new quad. I also had almost 300 slides which were used for orientation purposes that I removed from the collection and to have them stored with IU archives photos.

For my next collection I was given the task of integrating some new material into a previous collection. The collection that I was working with was Beta Phi Mu, the SLIS Honor Society. Most of the the materials I had were easily integrated into folders that were already in the collection. I did have to create a few new ones but it was pretty easy. I believe that I integrated about half a cubic foot into the collection, which meant I had to do some shifting of boxes. The collection had been expanded once before and was held in one rc box and 2 smaller document cases. With these new materials I was able to condense the document cases and with the new materials was able to put them in their own rc box. After I finished the integration I got the chance to refresh my EAD skills. I was able to work on updating the finding aid with materials that I had added. EAD is something I had learned over the summer, but had not used it since. I'm glad I got to work in the oXygen software and work on my XML encoding. Hopefully I will get a chance to do some more of this in the future.

Lastly, I've been working on the podcasts. Dina and I are nearing the time to start recording them. We had a follow up with Eric Bartheld to update on the where we were in the process, and he provided us with a digital recorder. After finding a few more small bits of information we should be looking at getting out and recording within the next couple of weeks.
