Seem to have hooked something with the Podcasting
Started working on editing the podcasts two weeks ago, and now that I am back from Spring Break I should be finishing up the editing on them pretty soon here. After I edited the audio and added photos to the file I was able to create the first podcast. I then sent it Eric to see what he thought, and he approved so I have gone on with editing and creating the rest of the episodes. Its been a very fun project so far, from doing the research, to recording the material and now being able to edit the files. I thought it might be difficult but after some help from a friend and the software that I am using the process is actually quite simple. In total there will be 10 podcasts over covering the buildings and structures of the Old Crescent. Over the period of ten weeks the podcasts will be released on the IUB webpage for people to download or subscribe to.

Pod-casting, We'll see what I can catch

Over the last few days I've been working on the podcasts. Dina and I went out to he Old Crescent and did the recordings on Tuesday. It was a neat experience and we were able to get some of the background sounds that we were hoping for. During the first recording the Chimes from the Student Building went off and they are in the background while I am talking about what the series will be about. We were able to get all of the recordings done on Tuesday and I spent the rest of Tuesday and all intern hours today working with the files. Over the next week or two I hope to get edit the podcasts and make the final composition, once that is done they will start to be released over a 10 week period. I've really enjoyed working on these podcasts so far. I was able to do research on the Old Crescent and Seminary Square and learn some very interesting history about Indiana University. I also think that learning how to create the podcasts will be a very valuable tool, and it seems that after getting a little instruction this should be a fairly easy project.

Catching up
Been a bit since I have posted, so I should get back at it. I've been pretty busy since last post during my time in the archives. I have the the chance to work with a few more collections. I was able to process one collection which was only about 2 cubic feet. This collection dealt with materials from the Forest Quad dorm. It didn't take to long to get thought with it being such a small collection. With it being that small I did not even have a series. The material consisted of orientation materials for new students that were moving into the new quad. I also had almost 300 slides which were used for orientation purposes that I removed from the collection and to have them stored with IU archives photos.
For my next collection I was given the task of integrating some new material into a previous collection. The collection that I was working with was Beta Phi Mu, the SLIS Honor Society. Most of the the materials I had were easily integrated into folders that were already in the collection. I did have to create a few new ones but it was pretty easy. I believe that I integrated about half a cubic foot into the collection, which meant I had to do some shifting of boxes. The collection had been expanded once before and was held in one rc box and 2 smaller document cases. With these new materials I was able to condense the document cases and with the new materials was able to put them in their own rc box. After I finished the integration I got the chance to refresh my EAD skills. I was able to work on updating the finding aid with materials that I had added. EAD is something I had learned over the summer, but had not used it since. I'm glad I got to work in the oXygen software and work on my XML encoding. Hopefully I will get a chance to do some more of this in the future.
Lastly, I've been working on the podcasts. Dina and I are nearing the time to start recording them. We had a follow up with Eric Bartheld to update on the where we were in the process, and he provided us with a digital recorder. After finding a few more small bits of information we should be looking at getting out and recording within the next couple of weeks.
